Common Pediatric O&P Devices We Offer
From early mobility aids to long-term orthopedic support, our clinics provide a full range of pediatric orthotic and prosthetic solutions, including:
Supramalleolar Orthoses (SMOs): Designed for children with low muscle tone or mild instability, SMOs provide support just above the ankle to improve balance and foot alignment, especially during early walking stages.
Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthoses (DAFOs): DAFOs are soft, flexible orthoses that offer gentle alignment and movement guidance—ideal for children with mild to moderate motor challenges. One of the most trusted and widely used brands we offer is Cascade DAFOs, known for their comfort, customization, and parent-approved results. These braces help encourage a more natural gait while still offering the support kids need.
Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs): AFOs provide structured support for improving stability, posture, and movement patterns. Commonly used for conditions such as cerebral palsy, foot drop, or spina bifida, they help children walk more safely and comfortably.
Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses (KAFOs): Full-leg orthoses that offer stability and alignment for children with more significant muscle weakness, joint instability, or complex neurological conditions.
Thoracolumbosacral Orthoses (TLSOs): Custom spinal braces that support the mid to lower back, commonly used to treat scoliosis or provide stabilization after surgery. Our TLSOs are lightweight, low-profile, and designed to fit comfortably under clothing while maintaining effective spinal alignment.
Lumbosacral Orthoses (LSOs): LSOs offer targeted support for the lower spine, often used to manage lower back pain, support posture, or assist in recovery from injury or surgery. Each brace is carefully crafted for your child’s body to ensure both function and comfort.
Upper Limb Orthoses: Braces and splints that support the function and development of the arms, wrists, or hands, often used for children with nerve injuries, fractures, or neuromuscular disorders.
Pediatric Prosthetic Limbs: Whether it’s a partial hand, below-knee, or above-knee prosthesis, our custom devices help kids regain independence, mobility, and confidence through design that adapts as they grow.
Cranial Helmets: Custom-molded helmets used to gently reshape a baby’s head during treatment for plagiocephaly or other cranial asymmetries. Designed for comfort and effectiveness during critical growth phases.
Every orthotic and prosthetic device is tailored to your child’s needs—with careful attention to comfort, mobility, and growth. We're here to help them move freely, play fully, and thrive with confidence.

A Team Approach to Pediatric Care
You know your child best—and we believe in listening. At Ottobock Care, we work closely with parents, pediatricians, physical and occupational therapists, and other members of your child’s care team to deliver a truly collaborative care experience.
We take the time to explain every step of the process so both you and your child feel comfortable, informed, and confident. Whether it’s a first brace or a new prosthesis, we’re here to support your family every step of the way.
Our Pediatric Care Process, Step by Step
Identify Your Child’s Needs. Every child is unique. During your first visit, our pediatric specialist will take the time to learn about your child’s medical history, including their prescribed diagnosis as well as their daily routines, physical goals, and any specific challenges they’re facing.
Determine the Best Orthotic or Prosthetic Solution. Based on our orthotist prosthetist (OP) evaluation and input from your care team—including you, the parent—we’ll recommend the most appropriate orthotic or prosthetic options tailored to your child’s condition, age, and activity level.
Discuss Findings and Preferences. We believe parents should feel fully informed. We’ll review our observations, listen to your input, and answer any questions you have before moving forward.
Finalize the Treatment Plan. With your input, we’ll confirm the device design, features, and any special considerations needed. Our team will guide you through the next steps and timeline, including any follow-up appointments.
In-Clinic Fabrication If Needed. Depending on your child’s needs, we may use in-house fabrication or collaborate with trusted pediatric orthotic and prosthetic labs in the Ottobock Care network to custom-make the device(s). This ensures the best materials and fit possible.
Fit and Fine-Tune. Later, we’ll schedule a fitting appointment once the device is ready, this may take a little while longer if in-house fabrication is necessary. Your child will try it on, and we’ll make any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort, alignment, and effectiveness. We’ll also provide tips for care and follow-up visits.
